Location

Willemstad, Curaçao

Project Date

Fiscal Year 2020 (FY2020)

Issue

Replacement of 2 installed chillers. The client demanded to have a redundancy in the chillers so that he could handle the hotel load with only 1 of them.

Solution

Two 350-ton screw chillers with VFD manufactured in Italy (EWWDC13VZSS2).

THE SOLUTION

We worked hand in hand with our business partner validating the total load required by the customer, 3 options were offered (centrifugal chiller, magnetic bearing chiller and screw chiller with VFD) with a complete package including chilled water and condensing water pump replacement. In hotel projects, the load profile tells us that the vast majority of the time the chillers will be running at part load, so our strategy focused on delivering the best possible equipment and obtaining the best efficiency at part load. In the process we realized that the competition was offering very efficient equipment at full load and not at part load, which became our key point in winning the project.

THE RESULTS

Daikin proves to be a leader in hotel installations in the Caribbean by presenting three 100% valid options, enough knowledge to be able to identify and explain to the customer that the real need is to handle partial load, and additionally offers five years of extended warranty. The screw chiller with VFD uses two compressors and two independent refrigeration circuits, so that in case of compressor failure, the equipment continues to have half of the chiller in operation.

About COVID-19

This project was completed during the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic which led us to a sudden shift in the dynamics of our workforce behavior. A lot of companies were bound to rush towards work from home including ours, so we decided to make arrangements in an extremely short period to address the urgency of this project. Ironically, COVID-19 gave us an additional push to make this challenge a well-accomplished project. At Daikin we are convinced that supporting our partners with effort and talent allow us to achieve any goal.
